Turning One During the Pandemic
I was excited to be the Portland event photographer that Allie and Paul choose for their son's backyard birthday party at their home in Hillsboro, OR.
I have been lucky enough to photograph this family ever since Allie and Paul said "I do". It has been my honor to be their wedding photographer, their newborn photographer and now their event photographer, for Lee's first birthday party!
Lee just happened to turn One right in the middle of 2020 and Oregon had recently started their plan for reopening, but we still had a lot to learn about coronavirus. It had been barley a year since I was at their house taking newborn photos, but everything had changed, including little Lee.
When I first saw Lee at the party I couldn't believe how much he had grown! Yet his face still looked so much like that little baby I remembered. And his hair had only continued to become more rocker chic, a family trite, see Dad.
I asked Allie what was it like planning a first birthday party during the pandemic, this is what she had to say"
"Nerve wracking. This was my first (and maybe only) child, I wanted to give him everything he deserved, including a small celebration of family and close friends. We followed all guidelines at the time: i.e. outdoors, limited guests, individual food servings, lots of sanitizers, wipes, etc. Our party favors were masks! I did feel selfish though. I kept thinking what if we were one of those party spreaders? Once it was about 2 weeks after the party, I was relieved that no one was sick. "
