Spring Wedding at Gray Gables Estate | Portland, Oregon

Linnea & Matt

Their Wedding Day from Spring to Sparklers

I was so excited to be the Portland wedding photographer that Linnea and Matt chose for their spring wedding at Gray Gables Estate.

Matt had plans of proposing at Christmas but then he decided he couldn’t wait that long. You see since Linnea gets up very early for work, so she goes to bed well be for Matt does. The two have created this adorable nightly tradition where Matt tucks her in for the night. While one night in early December as he tucked her into bed, he surprised her by getting down on one knee and proposing. What a sweet way to surprise her. And in such a personal intimate way, they will both never forget.

Linnea’s Mom, Nancy, joined us at her initial wedding consult and I remember her reminiscing on going through the wedding planning process 25 years ago, she said her photographer was a great help to her and a funny turn of events she now works with his grandson’s wife now, small world.

Linnea also has found memories related to her mother’s wedding. When we talked about what to do with her images after the wedding, she recalled how much she enjoyed walking past her Mothers wedding portrait in the house when she was growing up. I really loved hearing that. So much of what I love abut photography is that you a preserving a couple legacy, for themselves and for their future generations.

Linnea and Matt met while working at Oaks Amusement Park. It is a cute story involving some help from Matt’s Mom. Oaks Park ended up being the perfect backdrop for their summer engagement photography session. We even got the hook up for some special access.

They choose Gray Gables Estate for so many reasons. Linnea fell in love with the venues chancelleries and had really wanted to be married outside. She also knew she wouldn’t have to do a lot because it’s already so beautiful. The getting ready areas are separate from each other and each include lots of space. It was also important to the couple that the venue be accessible so all of their guests could easily enjoy all parts of the wedding.

They said Sam with Gray Gables was so much more helpful with the wedding process then they were expecting, Linnea said she was downright awesome.

Linnea told me that when she bought Matt’s ring he started wearing it right away. I have noticed that happening a little more often these days and why not? Men deserve to express their excitement to get married as much as any woman. And with men having more options these days for rings, they are excited to wear the piece of jewelry that represents themselves and the deep relationship they have with their soon to be spouse. Matt’s ring has Celtic knots and is made of cerulean.

Besides the wedding rings, other important jewelry on your wedding might include family pieces. For Linnea's wedding she wore a necklace made from an earring that belonged to her great great Grandmother and her Mother wore the same necklace on her wedding day. The other earring resides with Linnea's Aunt in California.

It always means so much to me when couples take the time to leave reviews, it's the best tip I can receive as a wedding photographer. So a big thank you goes to Linnea and Matt for saying this on Wedding Wire and The Knot:

"Cambrae was AMAZING! She was super sweet and super helpful when taking our photos. She really is flexible to work with your schedule. Everything was well organized and she helped us create fun and unique poses along with traditional. She helped everyone look good as well as made everyone comfortable. She knew the venue very well and that helped with some more of the creative shoots. She also did our engagement photos and they were perfect! She is super kind and genuinely cares about her clients."

After the ceremony dinner and the reception followed inside the ballroom. I love the natural flow this venue has for a wedding. Both parties have completely separate houses to get ready in. The Manor House and another smaller home that sits behind it, and they are close enough to easily move between. Then ceremony in the beautiful garden or by the koi pond (they have indoor space too), after which guests are invited to explore the amazing grounds or get a drink and check out the grand fireplace in the lobby of the ballroom. And once it is time, the large double doors will open to the main part of the ballroom where people can mingle and find their seat for dinner.

Printing your images is such an important part of preserving your wedding. After all it is printed items that will be passed down within the family for generations to come. That is a big reason most of my packages include a wedding album. Each couple gets to design their own so it will be as unique as their wedding. Below is a peak at the beautiful wedding album Linnea, Matt, and I put together. They also went home with a sleek and modern metal print of a black and white image taken during their first look.

Wearing a necklace made from your grandmother's earrings is a great gesture of love and devotion to your elders. You're good niece. By the way, I want the necklace to gift my sister at her wedding.
