Must Love Dogs
I was so excited when Kayla and John choose me to be the Portland engagement photographer for their summer couples photography session at Champoeg State Park.
I first met John and Kayla, when I photographed Kayla's twin sister, Katie's, wedding. Kayla was of course in the wedding party and John was running around giving a helping hand where needed. So of course I was extra excited when they reached out about planning their engagement and wedding day photography.
A big thing I have in common with Kayla and John is our love of dogs. But of course the dogs that steal their hearts, are their dogs Ratatat & Willie. So of course they had to bring them along to be a part of things. In my opinion, they are just adorable! Pets are always welcome to come along for any photography session. Though it never hurts to bring along a few treats or a favorite toy.
They met at Bushwackers when john was on break from the academy. John can't dance so his friends were dancing with Kayla all night. John thought he couldn't compete so he was busy enjoying his chicken tenders when Kayla asked to snag a fry, of course, he shared. That lead to some exchanges on Snap Chat and then a first date at McMenamins West Linn Pub.
John's proposal was a bit out of the blue, but he said it just felt right. They were at his buddies farm, just before they bought their own home. Kayla recalled saying yes because she loves the person John makes her. They have been through a lot together and he still brings out the happy in her.
John and Kayla decided on Champoeg State Park for their engagement session. This place is just stunning! According to their website, the park has historical landmarks, a river, an 18-hole disc golf course, beautiful oak trees, scenic picnic areas, home to more than 130 bird species and a dock for fishing or kayaking on the Willamette River. And not to mention, great for taking engagement photos.

John and Kayla decided to purchase "Save the Date" greeting cards featuring one of their engagement photos to let guests know when they would say "I do"! And they Did! Kayla and John were married at The Barn at Countryside in Aurora this past July. Wedding photos coming soon!
